Indian fielding stalwart, Virat Kohli displayed his fielding skills by taking an astounding one-handed catch during the Match 5 of Asia Cup 2023 against Nepal on Monday.

Virat Kohli unlocks new fielding milestones in ODIs

This catch wasn’t just about its aesthetics; it marked his 100th catch in multi-nation tournaments, making him only the second Indian after Mohammad Azharuddin to achieve this milestone as a non-wicketkeeper.

Moreover, this catch pushed Kohli's total to 143 catches in ODIs, helping him surpass New Zealand's Ross Taylor in the list of most catches taken in this format. Currently, Kohli stands fourth in this coveted list, trailing behind legends Mohammad Azharuddin (156 catches), Ricky Ponting (160 catches), and Mahela Jayawardene (218 catches).

Notably, earlier in the game, Kohli had faced a momentary lapse, dropping opener Aasif Sheikh. However, champions are known to rise to the occasion. The Indian veteran later exhibited sheer brilliance, dismissing the very same batsman with a catch that will be remembered for a long time.

It is worth mentioning that among the currently active cricketers in the field, Kohli stands out with the highest number of catches in ODIs. Veteran cricketer Chris Gayle, who is yet to officially retire from international cricket, trails Kohli with 124 catches. Martin Guptill and Pakistan's Shoaib Malik also feature on this list with 104 and 100 catches respectively.

As Kohli's legacy continues to grow, another milestone awaits the batting maestro. He's just 98 runs away from landmark 13,000 ODI runs. As excitement builds, the Kohli fandom is keen to see if the Nepal bowlers can halt the King from achieving yet another feat.
