Punjab Kings (PBKS) faced a major setback before the IPL 2025 playoffs, as their star spinner Yuzvendra Chahal missed the crucial match against Delhi Capitals (DC) due to an injury. The match took place on Saturday, May 24, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

PBKS Coach Gives Confirms Yuzvendra Chahal's Injury

PBKS assistant coach and spin bowling expert, Sunil Joshi, confirmed after the game that Chahal had a minor injury and was rested as a precaution. However, with the playoffs around the corner, fans and team members are worried about whether he’ll recover in time for the upcoming matches.

"Chahal has a small niggle, so we are just resting him. That's the idea," Sunil Joshi said.

Chahal has been one of PBKS’s top performers this season, especially in the spin department. His absence was clearly felt during the match, as PBKS lost to Delhi Capitals by six wickets, with just three balls remaining.

The team gave Praveen Dubey a chance to play alongside Harpreet Brar in Chahal’s absence. However, Dubey only bowled two overs and gave away 20 runs without taking a wicket. Brar did better, picking up 2 wickets for 41 runs, but the bowling attack overall seemed weaker without Chahal.

Chahal has been in great form this season, he scalped 14 wickets in 11 innings. He even took a hat-trick in a game against Chennai Super Kings in April, showing his value to the team.

Talking about the match, PBKS scored 206 runs in their 20 overs, thanks to Shreyas Iyer’s 53 and Marcus Stoinis’s powerful 44 off just 17 balls. Despite the strong total, DC chased it down with six wickets in hand. Sameer Rizvi was the star for DC, scoring 58 not out from just 25 balls, while Karun Nair added 44 runs.

This loss was a missed opportunity for PBKS to climb to the top of the points table. They now sit in second place with 17 points from 13 matches. To secure a top-two finish and get two chances to reach the final, they must win their last league game against MI.
