The Indian team is gearing up for an exciting five-match Test series against England, starting on June 20, 2025. This will be India’s first major Test assignment after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year. The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) is expected to announce the squad on Saturday, May 24.
With legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retiring from Test cricket, it’s time for some fresh faces to step up. Shubman Gill is expected to take over as India’s new Test captain, marking a new era in Indian cricket.
Let’s take a look at three young players who might get selected for the Indian Test team for the very first time:
1. Sai Sudharsan
- A talented left-handed batter from Tamil Nadu, known for his calmness and strong performances.
- Sai has been in amazing form in the 2025 IPL, scoring 638 runs, the highest by any player so far. He also played for India A and did well in county cricket in England, even scoring a century.
- First-class stats: 1,397 runs in 33 innings with an average of 42.33, including four centuries.
- Added advantage: He has experience playing in English conditions, which could be useful on the England tour.
2. Anshul Kamboj
- A young all-rounder from Haryana who bowls medium pace and can also bat.
- Anshul made headlines in domestic cricket when he took all 10 wickets in an innings in a Ranji Trophy match. Although he didn’t play much in the IPL for CSK, he showed promise when given a chance.
- India A & Emerging Team: He has been a regular in India A teams but hasn’t yet played for the main Indian team.
- Bowling highlights: Picked 5 wickets in 7 IPL games and impressed with his consistent line and length. In Ranji Trophy, he scalped 34 wickets in 12 innings.
3. Arshdeep Singh
- A left-arm fast bowler from Punjab, already popular for his performances in T20 cricket.
- Arshdeep has been improving in red-ball (long-format) cricket. He also played in the English County Championship, where he impressed with his swing bowling.
- IPL 2025 form: 16 wickets in 11 games for Punjab Kings with a good strike rate.
- First-class stats: 66 wickets in 21 matches. While his average is on the higher side (30.37), he’s expected to get better with more matches.
