On the opening day of the Manchester Test, Team India suffered a massive blow as Rishabh Pant walked away midway after the ball hit his foot. Being unbeaten on 37, he walked away from the field being retired hurt.

As the wicketkeeper-batter was building a strong foundation with Sai Sudharsan, his sudden injury added woes. But after the day ended, Sudharsan’s words on Pant’s injury cast a shadow on his availability.

Despite a strong start in the ongoing clash, Team lost the flow in the middle after losing quick wickets. Standing on that crucial point, Rishabh Pant joined Sai Sudharsan on the field, and the duo stitched a game-changing 72-run partnership. But another blow hit the visitors in the 68th over as Chris Woakes came to bowl and Pant was in strike.

While attempting a reverse-sweep, the ball hit Pant’s right boot. The situation worsened as the wicketkeeper-batter was seen in severe pain and walked off the field on immediate basis. After the day ended in Manchester, Sudharsan’s words on Pant’s injury raised eyebrows. After Day 1 ended, he said the team would surely feel Pant’s absence if he doesn't return.

“Obviously (Pant will be a big loss if he misses out), because he was batting really well today as well. Plus, we’ll miss a batter if he doesn’t come back again. So, it will definitely have consequences,” Sudharsan said.

In the ongoing series, Rishabh Pant has been a pillar of strength in Team India’s batting order. Being the second-highest run-scorer of the series, Pant is having the best Test tour of his career, but the Injury cast a shadow over it. Despite this setback, Sai Sudharsan remains confident, believing the team’s collective talent will shine through and help India overcome Pant’s potential absence.

“But at the same time, the batters who are batting right now, and there are a few more allrounders inside. So, we’ll try and give our best and bat long so that we negotiate that loss very well,” he added.

Despite the dream run in the ongoing series, injury has been a massive setback for the youngster. In the previous match, he sustained a finger injury and chose not to keep wickets. But the recent injury seems more serious than this. With no official word yet from the BCCI, anxious fans are left holding their breath, hoping for positive news.
