Kevin Pietersen has made a bold WTC prediction ahead of Day 3 of the South Africa vs Australia final at Lord’s. Pietersen believes that since the South Africans are due to bat shortly for the decisive innings, the weather gods have perfectly aligned for the Proteas in London.

It is worth noting that South African pacers Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi counterattacked Australia’s handy 74-run first innings lead by reducing the defending champions to 73-7 at one stage on Day 2. However, Alex Carey and Mitchell Starc stitched together a vital 61-run partnership for the eighth wicket before Australia reached 144-8 by stumps.

Pietersen Feels Weather Gods Favoring SA

On Friday, June 13, i.e., ahead of Day 3 of the WTC final, Kevin Pietersen shared a picture of the London weather, describing the sunny setting to be “perfect” conditions for South Africa to chase down 200 odd runs for a win.

Taking to X, Pietersen wrote:

“If SA ever wanted the most perfect weather to get 200 odd runs to win, it’s here. A batting day…”

SA vs AUS WTC Final Story So Far…

South African fast bowlers Kagiso Rabada (5-51) and Marco Jansen (3-49) enveloped the entire Australian first innings for 212 in 56.4 overs on Day 1 after captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and opted to field first. For Australia, Steve Smith composed a cautious 66 from 112 balls while Beau Webster top-scored in the innings with an attacking 72.

In response, Pat Cummins skittled South Africa for just 138 by picking up near career-best figures of 6-28 as Australia gained a handy 74-run lead. Mitchell Starc also struck with the new ball by getting rid of both Proteas openers.

Emboldened with a 74-run advantage, Australia reached 144-8 by stumps on Day 2 to extend their lead to 218 runs.
