Bangladesh cricket has witnessed a historical shift in recent times. Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has replaced former captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and taken the reins of the ODI side.

After donning the captain’s hat for a year, Mehidy Hasan Miraz set his sights high. As he leads Bangladesh into the upcoming ODI series, he’s eyeing a new beginning.

Miraz Eyes Big Bounce Back For Bangladesh

Succeeding the former Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mehidy Hasan Miraz took the helm of the Bangladesh side. After consistent performance in all three formats, the Bangladeshi all-rounder received the honor. In the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka, he is all set to make his captaincy debut.

Bangladesh’s recent ODI slump has seen them slip to 10th in the ICC rankings. According to The Daily Star, Mehidy Hasan Miraz is determined to spark a revival, declaring it's time to stabilize and rebuild the ODI setup.

“Of course, it's our time to take responsibility. We have played a sufficient number of international matches over the last eight to nine years. Junior players have to perform the way we did when we started. I will try to help them as the seniors did and want to give such a dressing room so that they feel all are with them,” he said.

“It is good for a captain to get this job for a long time, as you can boost up the team. As I got captaincy for a year, I want to make the team better in this time frame. I think it's time to settle the ODI team. Two of our senior cricketers have retired from the ODI team. Those who will get opportunity need to use it, and I think within one year, we can set up the team,” he added.

As the 2027 World Cup nears, the upcoming ODI series becomes crucial for the Bangladesh side. Ranked 10th, they’re eyeing a strong revival under Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s leadership.
