In a bold statement, former England cricket legend Michael Vaughan has prophesized that Australian skipper Pat Cummins is poised to become the next Don Bradman, cementing his status as Australia's greatest cricketer. Cummins had an extraordinary 2023, captaining Australia to dual ICC triumphs – the World Test Championship and the World Cup – an unprecedented feat in the same year.

Ending the year with stellar performances, Cummins took consecutive five-wicket hauls against Pakistan, showcasing his exceptional skills. With 257 wickets at an impressive average of 22.13, Cummins has entered the elite 250-wicket club, with only six bowlers boasting superior averages, including the legendary Glenn McGrath.

When asked to choose between Dennis Lillee and Cummins, Vaughan declared on Fox Cricket, "I think Cummins is going to end up being Australia’s greatest cricketer after Sir Don [Bradman]."

Here's Michael Vaughan's Full Statement:

“I saw a bit of DK [Lillee] on screen but I think … Pat Cummins, in time – don’t think he’s ever going to surpass Sir Don [Bradman], [but] I think Cummins is going to end up being Australia’s greatest cricketer after Sir Don.”

Although acknowledging Bradman's unparalleled legacy with a Test batting average of 99.94, Vaughan expressed confidence in Cummins' potential to etch his name among cricketing greats.

While Bradman's iconic status may remain unparalleled, Cummins' remarkable achievements have set the stage for a potential legacy that could rival the cricketing giants of Australia's past, including Richie Benaud and Shane Warne. Only time will tell if Cummins can truly follow in the footsteps of the legendary Sir Don Bradman.
