On Thursday, September 19, India will face Bangladesh for the first Test match at MA Chidambaram Stadium. The match will mark the return of Rishabh Pant after nearly two years. Notably, Pant last played a Test in December 2022 as he suffered a fatal car crash on December 30, 2022.

In the latest events, Gautam Gambhir addressed the press ahead of his first assignment, as India's head coach in Test cricket. He talked about the competition for the keeper's slot but confirmed that Rishabh Pant would be the one keeping gloves against Bangladesh.

"Pant can open the game for us. As a keeper also, he has done phenomenally well. We all know how destructive Pant can be. It is good to have someone like him, and he has done phenomenally with keeping. Batting overshadows keeping, he brings a lot of good things to the side," said Gambhir.

Gambhir Heaps Massive Praise On Jurel And Sarfaraz

During the presser, Gambhir was asked about dropping Sarfaraz and Jurel, to which he praised the duo and asked them to wait for their opportunities.

“We don’t drop anyone. We just pick the players who fit the XI. We believe in selecting the XI. Jurel is a phenomenal player when Pant is coming in, sometimes people have to wait. Same with Sarfaraz. There will be opportunities and you have to wait,” he said.

It is worth noting that Jurel was impressive with the gloves inDuleep Trophy 2024 after he took seven catches in the second innings of the match between India and India B  and equalled MS Dhoni's record for most catches in an innings in Duleep Trophy history.
