Coming from a small town in Uttar Pradesh, Yashasvi Jaiswal has overcome some tough challenges but has left no stone unturned. The hunger and passion in his eyes to get his team home is one of the most remarkable qualities that makes him stand out.
With so much noise surrounding Shubman Gill, perhaps Yashasvi Jaiswal received the recognition a little late; however, his dues are now being paid in full as he is finally being celebrated and hailed as the future of Indian cricket across all formats.
Jaiswal's Spot Locked And Loaded For Perth Test
The 22-year-old left-hander, Yashasvi Jaiswal, solidified his place in India's Test team with a remarkable series against England, scoring over 700 runs, including two double-centuries. With 1407 runs in just 14 Tests at an impressive average of 56.28, Jaiswal has firmly established himself as India's second opener alongside captain Rohit Sharma. So much so, that despite numerous discussions surrounding chopping and changing India's playing XI for Perth Test, Jaiswal's spot as an opener remains fixed.
Shastri Backs Yashasvi Jaiswal
Showering praises on Jaiswal and his sizzling performance, former India coach turned commentator, Ravi Shastri has said that after the young-gun will be leaving the Australian shores as a much better and mature player. He also described how his aggressive yet free approach to the game make him an important part of the team.
“I think he’ll be a better player when he leaves Australian shores. Already, he’s world-class. You saw what he did against England—just the freedom with which he plays. He’s come up the hard way, so you can see that hunger and passion, not just in his eyes but in the way he fields and stays involved in the game,” Shastri said at Fox Cricket/Kayo Summer of Cricket Launch.
Ravi Shastri recognized the challenges posed by Australian pitches, especially the extra bounce at venues like Perth. However, he expressed confidence in Yashasvi Jaiswal and said:
“If he can see that phase through, he will love these pitches. He scores freely and has the temperament to thrive in tough conditions.”
Meanwhile, India and Australia will meet for the first Test at Perth's Optus Stadium from November 22, Friday onwards.
