Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will go into the IPL 2025 mega auction with a big purse of INR 84 crores. With just Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Yash Dayal retained, the overseas slots are all vacant.

RCB’s key problem has always been bowling. The M.Chinnaswamy Ground in Bengaluru is a curse for bowlers and home team RCB have had to bear the consequences. Regardless, the IPL 2025 mega auction offers a clean slate for RCB to rebuild a powerful and balanced squad.

From the batting department, Kohli and Patidar comprise the top order. Considering they acquire KL Rahul from the marquee set, RCB will still need a proper middle-order batter to anchor the innings.

Rahul Tripathi, despite minimum international cricket experience, is an IPL veteran. He played over 95 matches, where he scored 2236 runs along with 12 fifties, 223 fours, and 84 sixes. He did not get much of a chance in IPL 2024, yet he delivered consistently, maintaining a healthy average of 250-300 every season. Given his experience, RCB can bag him on a steal deal. He can bat anywhere in the middle, which will add to the team’s batting depth. Moreover, contrary to his physique, Tripathi can muscle big shots, meaning the Chinnaswamy ground will suit him.

2. Glenn Phillips

New Zealand middle-order batter Glenn Phillips is another great and economical option for RCB. He has played only 6 games in the IPL and amassed a total of 65 runs with a 118.18 strike rate. However, his numbers in T20I are impressive. Across 80 games, Phillips scored 1891 runs with 2 centuries, 10 fifties, and 32 average. Though listed as a pure batter, Phillips can roll arms as right arm off spinner. Phillips is an excellent option for RCB to replace Cameron Green. He’s got that flair, and at Chinnaswamy, he can destroy spinners. For INR 1.50 crores base price, Phillips’ anticipated bid won’t exceed INR 5-6 crores. Hence, RCB can definitely opt for him.

Devon Conway is a top-order choice for RCB. Given they fail to land KL Rahul or any other top-order marquee choice, Conway could come in handy. In IPL 2023, Conway hammered 672 runs with a 51.69 average and 139.71 strike rate. Besides being a prolific opener, Conway can also adjust at no.3. With Virat Kohli, Conway can open as an ideal left-right combination. His base price is fixed at INR 2.00 crores, and once the marquee list is exhausted, his market price might not exceed INR 7-8 crores. And RCB, with INR 84 crore, can definitely go for him to add power to the top order.
