Some comebacks are quiet, however, Karun Nair’s was anything but that. After being off the IPL radar for over 1000 days, the stylish right-hander walked out as an Impact Player for Delhi Capitals against Mumbai Indians and made an impact alright by smashing his highest-ever IPL score.

Karun Nair Returns To IPL With Highest Score of 89

The experienced batter tore into the Mumbai Indians attack like a man on a mission and walked off with a stunning 89 off just 40 balls to his name.

Notably, before Sunday, the last time Karun Nair featured in an IPL game was way back in 2022 for Rajasthan Royals. Fast forward 1077 days and he walked into a buzzing Arun Jaitley Stadium with something to prove he delivered in style.

His previous best in the IPL was an unbeaten 83 against SRH in 2016 but this knock against MI was next-level stuff. He reached his half-century in just 22 balls. Sharp, clean, and fearless. This was his 11th IPL fifty but what made it sweeter was that it came after a seven-year drought. The last time he raised his bat for a fifty in IPL was in 2018.

Karun Nair Departs After Scoring 89

Meanwhile, Mitchell Santner eventually ended the party in the 12th over with a peach that turned from middle and kissed the off stump. But by then, the damage had been done. Karun had already played the knock of the night and maybe the knock of his IPL career.

Delhi Capitals picked him up for INR 50 lakh in the 2025 mega auction, and tonight, that investment looked like a steal.

It is worth mentioning that this knock didn’t come out of the blue. Karun’s been piling on the runs in the domestic circuit. He smashed 255 runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at a strike rate of 177. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he scored 542 runs in five innings without getting out. And in the Ranji Trophy, a solid 863 runs for Vidarbha, helping them lift the title.
