Cricket fans waited for almost eight months to watch Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma back in action. Unlike others, both players have retired from Test and T20I cricket to focus on the ODI format as the World Cup 2027 approaches.
However, following a hiatus, the performances of Kohli and Rohit were below par in the previous match, leading to a series of criticism from fans and cricket pundits. Defending the players, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak spoke about their match preparations ahead of the second ODI against Australia.
Sitanshu Kotak confident about Kohli, Rohit’s batting performance
The batting coach has shown his confidence in Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma despite their disappointing performance in the previous match. He spoke about their preparation for the upcoming matches and also mentioned that ‘they are in good touch’. Both players were part of the IPL 2025 and have had match practice with the white ball.
“I don’t think there was any rustiness (in Rohit and Kohli’s batting). They played the IPL, and their preparation has been very good. I think both of them have a lot of experience. Even before coming to Australia, their preparations were very good. So I think it’s too early to even think like that (worry about their form). They both look in very good touch to me. They batted really well yesterday. Every net session, their approach has been excellent,” said Sitanshu Kotak ahead of the second ODI match.
You need to find the right time to intervene: Sitanshu Kotak
Sitanshu Kotak was asked whether the team management was in touch with the players after the Champions Trophy 2025, to which he gave a clear answer. While the management was well aware of their fitness routine, they didn’t interfere much.
“But not always, to be very honest. You need to find the right time to intervene. With such senior players, you don’t want to intervene if it’s not required. If they are doing things right and you still try to get involved, it may not be the right thing to do always,” added Kotak.
Since Kohli and Rohit are senior players and have been representing the country for a long time, the management entrusted them with their own practice sessions.
