India’s batting frailties were exposed once again as Australia secured a series-clinching victory in the second ODI at the Adelaide Oval, winning by 2 wickets. Sent in to bat on a surface offering early assistance, India’s innings never found its rhythm, ultimately posting a below-par 264 for 9. 

The total proved insufficient against a disciplined Australian bowling attack and a confident chase led by Mitchell Marsh. The match was defined by early setbacks for India’s star-studded top order. For the first time in his illustrious ODI career, Virat Kohli fell for consecutive ducks, trapped lbw by a sharp inswinger from debutant Xavier Bartlett. 

Captain Shubman Gill’s lean run continued, falling for 9, while Rohit Sharma laboured through a difficult start. Although Rohit and Shreyas Iyer staged a recovery their dismissals triggered a collapse. 

The lower order, barring a late flurry from Axar Patel, failed to provide the necessary finish against a clinical Bartlett and Adam Zampa. In response, Australia after some early and late hiccups managed to scamper the winning runs with Cooper Connolly at the crease.
