For all the noise about rifts and cold shoulders, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill put every rumour to bed. During the long rain delay in the 1st ODI between India and Australia at Perth, the former and current India captains were spotted deep in conversation for nearly 45 minutes.
Gill and Rohit’s 45-minute conversation puts an end to all rift speculations
As the rain came pouring down at the Optus Stadium, the cameras caught Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill chatting animatedly inside the dressing room. At first, it looked like a serious discussion about India's shaky start, but soon the mood lightened.
From technical talks to a bit of fun banter, the duo looked like two mates having a casual chat rather than a captain and ex-captain under pressure. The pair even looked up at the skies together as the rain refused to ease, perhaps hoping the clouds would part as much as the social media speculation had.
Gambhir joins the conversation
Moments later, head coach Gautam Gambhir joined in. Whatever tension fans thought existed between Rohit and Gambhir vanished instantly. The two were seen laughing with Rohit showing something on his iPad to Gambhir while Gill and batting coach Sitanshu Kotak watched keenly.
India’s nightmare start before the drizzle
Before the rain gods took over, India’s top order had a nightmare. Rohit (8), Gill (10) and Virat Kohli (0) were all back in the hut early. Josh Hazlewood removed Rohit, Mitchell Starc got Kohli for a duck, and Gill's luck ran out as he was caught down the leg off Nathan Ellis. At the time of writing, India are reeling at 37/3 in 11.5 overs as the play has been halted due to rain.
