"No Use Of Your Runs": Did Rohit Sharma Make Indirect Comment On RCB’s Virat Kohli?

Rohit Sharma has made it clear that for him, winning trophies is more important than scoring big runs. He believes that no matter how many runs a player scores, it means little if the team doesn’t win tournaments.

In IPL 2025 so far, Rohit has scored 240 runs in 9 matches for Mumbai Indians, with an average of 30. His best performance was an unbeaten 76 off 45 balls against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium, which helped MI win by nine wickets.

Rohit Sharma Drops Bombshell Statement

Talking in an interview on the YouTube channel Vimalwa, Rohit said he doesn’t care about hitting 600 or 700 runs in a season if it doesn’t help the team lift the trophy. He shared an example from the 2019 ODI World Cup, where he was the highest run-scorer with 648 runs, including five centuries. But India didn’t win the cup, they lost in the semifinals to New Zealand.

Rohit said,

"My goal has never been that I have to score so many runs in this IPL season. My goal is that I have to win matches for MI & I try my best for that. Whether 600 runs, 700 or 800 runs are scored but if your team hasn't won trophy then no use of your runs."

He also pointed out that in all the seasons when Mumbai Indians won the IPL, no MI player won the Orange Cap (given to the highest run-scorer in a season). This shows, according to Rohit, that team effort matters more than individual stats.

“But I am not claiming that my 30 runs are helping the team to win. My focus is on making contributions that benefit the team. Before I used to think I have to score runs (but not anymore). Whenever MI has won a trophy, nobody from our team has won the Orange Cap. There’s a reason behind that," he said.

Rohit, who led Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles, was replaced by Hardik Pandya as captain last year. Meanwhile, the star cricketer will be seen in action against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Thursday, May 1 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
