India's arch-enemy in ICC events of late has been New Zealand. The Black Caps knocked India out of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in the semi-finals and also beat Team India in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021 in England.

Former Australia opener and two-time World Cup winner Matthew Hayden has backed Rohit Sharma and Co. to better their result this time when India faces off against the Kiwis in the semi-final of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

India are due to face New Zealand tomorrow at Mumbai's Wankhede stadium, which has left Indian fans worried.

Sharma and his men did manage to beat New Zealand in the group stage encounter at Dharamsala, thus breaking their WC winless streak against their opponents since 2003.

Speaking to Star Sports, Hayden explained that the current Indian side is excelling in all three departs and can easily break past their jinx.

Here's what Hayden said

“Well look, India is the in-form side. They’ve gone on a winning run like the Australian team did in 2003 and 2007. When it comes to semi-finals and finals, obviously, it’s a two-horse race across a four-horse race and obviously, India have everything covered in terms of their batting skills and bowling skills and the fielding has been outstanding.

They’ve had great efficiency in all of those 3 departments and their bowling has been outstanding as well. There’s no reason why they can’t break the jinx,”

Interestingly, India have never beaten New Zealand in a knockout fixture.
