Ranked No. 2 in the ICC ODI Team Rankings, heading into the Cricket World Cup 2023, Pakistan failed to live up to the expectations and hype and crashed out of the competition after finishing fifth in the points table.

A major reason behind Pakistan's lacklustre show in India has been their bowling and in particular their spinners, who failed to provide inputs and pick wickets at regular intervals.

Leg-spinner Shadab Khan, who had a tough World Cup, claimed just two wickets, whereas others like Rashid Khan, Adam Zampa, and Adil Rashid created trouble for their opponents under helpful conditions.

After Pakistan's ouster, Shadab accepted that his poor showing bore upon his team's disappointing performance. As quoted by India Today, Khan explained his shortcoming was behind Babar Azam and Co's disastrous outing.

Here's what Shadab said:

"I have let myself down, I didn't live up to my potential as a bowler that has impacted the team's performance. You always try to win a tournament, this could not happen. We are out of the semifinals. Coaches, players, support staff everyone is disappointed. Whenever a tournament starts, we have to improve in all three departments. As a team, we failed to adapt to modern-day cricket."

Apart from being dropped from the XI, Shadab missed a few matches as well owning to concussion, playing just six matches out of eight. The all-rounder further stated that people should not alone blame the captain for the loss in the World Cup and change this 'culture' moving forward.

Pakistan are due to visit Australia for a three-Test tour starting December 13.
