Reason Behind Jofra Archer's Unavailability For ENG's Caribbean Tour Revealed!

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) named England's white-ball teams for their upcoming tour of the Caribbean starting December 3, where the Three Lions will feature in three One-Day International and five T20I series.

An unexpected omission from both squads was pacer Jofra Archer, who has been out of action since Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 and was expected to feature in the ongoing World Cup 2023 in the business end for England.

However, as reported by ESPNcricinfo, Archer remains unavailable for selection as the fast bowler suffered a setback during his rehab during the World Cup, once again dealing with elbow pain while training.

The player made a comeback in January 2023 after 18 months, after multiple rehabs, and featured in four ODIs and three T20Is across South Africa and Bangladesh tours before an injury in IPL halted the pacer's road to World Cup 2023.

ECB's men's Director of Cricket and former opener Robert Key explained details about the injury to Archer and indicated when the bowler could be seen in action for England next.

Here's what Key said

"Originally, the thought was that he was going to be alright for the back end of the competition. It was a risk worth taking. He had his scans, and they all came up clear. He flies over here, comes out to Mumbai, bowls, and actually then he felt pain in his elbow. So then, the view was, 'right, this is going to be a risk too far'. Because of the upside, that's what lures you in. You start looking at things like the Ashes in two years, the T20 World Cup… Jofra adds so much to that.

Rather than pick him in the squads, we're just going to play it by ear and when he's fit and ready to come back in, he'll come back in. Until he's ready and fit, he won't be in the squad - and even then, he's going to take a period of building up. It's not going to be straightforward, and we've got to be so careful. We're desperate for Jofra. We take that bet with him that we want him back fit and able to play for England, because of the upside."

Meanwhile, rumours are floating about the IPL franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) releasing Archer from their squad, having acquired the pacer for INR 8 crore in IPL 2022 auction.
