England fast bowler Mark Wood expressed confidence in his side’s preparedness for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup, despite the ongoing warm-up T20 series against Pakistan being marred by rain.

England cricket team have played no T20Is whatsoever this year, and hence ECB organised a four-game T20 series against Pakistan to ensure the players get necessary practice for the impending ICC event.

However, rain gods had other plans, as two of the first three games have been washed out by rain. England managed to win the only game played in Birmingham.

Notably, the England cricket team will head to Barbados after the series to play Scotland in the T20 World Cup tournament opener.

However, with important games getting washed out, English pacer Mark Wood has reassured the fans that the English side is absolutely ready for the ICC event. He said England cricket has its standards, and it has everything it needs. Hence, once they reach Barbados, there will absolutely be no excuses.

"One or two of us might feel like we need a game or two to get going, but there will be no excuses. We’re a professional side, we’re the England cricket team, we’ve got everything we need. We should be able to adapt, and when we get out there that’s when the time to turn it on is," Mark Wood said on BBC.

Mark Wood also cited IPL experience as a key factor in regular player’s readiness ahead of the World Cup.

"Some lads have been playing at the IPL and they’re match ready. The lads that haven’t, is there a freshness? At the IPL, you’re playing all the time, other lads have seen your tricks, they’ve seen what you’re doing," Wood added.

Personally, Mark Wood was supposed to make a comeback to the national side in the third T20 since he got sidelined due to an injury earlier this year.

"It will be important for me, to be honest with you. I actually feel like I’m getting to the stage where I’m off my full run, I’m ready to play," he concluded.

But Wood is not worried about his form and promises to deliver when the time comes.
