'Never Easy With Cloud Of MS Dhoni': Hayden Analyzes Ruturaj's CSK Captaincy So Far

Former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden was a key player in the inaugural CSK team. Having played under Dhoni, Hayden has a deep understanding of Dhoni's strategic mindset.

Now, after 15 years, with Ruturaj Gaikwad, a young successor, leading the team, Hayden acknowledges the challenge. He analyzes some of Gaikwad's recent on-field decisions from the last game and his overall performance this season

Hayden points out that replacing MSD as captain is a tough task, so Ruturaj is likely to make mistakes. It's too soon to criticize, but Hayden sees Moeen Ali's inclusion and batting position, along with not using Theekshana against Head right away, as big errors in Gaikwad's strategy against SRH.

Dhoni's aura is unmatchable

Hayden assumes that with Dhoni's presence, it's tough for Gaikwad to lead. Dhoni's aura overshadows Ruturaj, making it challenging to captain someone who has achieved everything.

“So some sharp action was needed, and I think it can never be easy with a cloud of MS Dhoni around you, and I’m not saying that’s because of MS Dhoni. But it is what it is. He is Thala. So Ruturaj Gaikwad might be having that sort of pressure inside him, and maybe his reaction and decision-making process need to be just a little quicker and a little sharper"-says Hayden.

As it is still the early stages of the tournament, Gaikwad has at least 10 more games to rectify his mistakes and lead CSK back to winning ways. CSK will face Shreyas Iyer's KKR at Chepauk on Monday.
