Rishabh Pant has become a curious case for all Indian cricket lovers. An undisputed starter in Tests, the explosive batter has failed to replicate the same form in white-ball cricket.

Having made his white-ball debut in 2017, Pant is yet to cement and justify his place in the team, with inconsistent performances. Critics have argued that the left-handed batter should be removed from the limited-overs squad, especially with KL Rahul already in the team.

How many more chances for Pant in white-ball cricket?

Barring a stellar hundred Vs England in 2022, Pant has generally failed to deliver the goods in ODIs. He has a decent average of 33, but has not converted good starts into a big score, as witnessed in the third ODI against Sri Lanka.

With someone like KL Rahul averaging in 50s in ODIs, having Pant in the same XI means, sacrificing a specialised batter in the side.

The T20Is numbers clearly state why Pant should not be considered in the squad. After 76 matches, he only averages 23.25. For someone who is known for his explosiveness, the talented batter only has a strike-rate of 127.76, with just 1209 runs under his belt.

He made his comeback in the Indian team after his injury in the T20 World Cup. Barring a scratchy looking 42, he didn't do much and failed to deliver in the semis and the finals.

So, the question arises, with so many talented players waiting in the wings, is it justifiable do give Pant more chances in white-ball cricket?
