A practice cricket match between Maharashtra and Mumbai in Pune turned tense on Tuesday when tempers flared between former teammates Prithvi Shaw and Musheer Khan. What started as a friendly game quickly became heated after Shaw’s dismissal, leading to a moment that grabbed attention on social media.

Prithvi Shaw, playing for Maharashtra against his old team Mumbai, was in brilliant form. He smashed 181 runs off 220 balls, hitting 21 fours and 3 sixes, and shared a record 305-run partnership with opener Arshin Kulkarni, who scored 186. The match was meant to be a warm-up ahead of the Ranji Trophy season, but things took an unexpected turn when Shaw got out.

Prithvi Shaw loses his cool

In the 74th over, Shaw tried to hit a big shot off young Mumbai spinner Musheer Khan, but was caught at deep fine leg. As Shaw began walking back, Musheer reportedly said “Thank you”, a simple phrase, but said in a sarcastic way that upset Shaw.

Having dominated the bowlers all day, Shaw lost his cool, turned around, and angrily walked toward Musheer. Video clips showed Shaw raising his bat and grabbing the bowler by the collar before other players and the umpire stepped in to calm things down.

People who were at the ground said there had been light sledging and teasing throughout Shaw’s innings, but Musheer’s sarcastic remark after taking his wicket seemed to push him over the edge. The incident briefly overshadowed what had otherwise been a great day of cricket with impressive performances from both sides.

After the match, Maharashtra captain Ankit Bawne played down the clash, saying it was nothing serious.

"It's a practice match. They are all former teammates. Such things happen. It's all ok now and there is no issue," Bawne said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

So far, neither the Mumbai Cricket Association nor the Maharashtra Cricket Association has announced any disciplinary action. The players have reportedly moved on, and officials have treated the episode as an emotional outburst rather than a serious conflict.
