Prithvi Shaw, the talented cricketer played his first match against his former domestic side, Mumbai, after switching to the Maharashtra team for the 2025-26 domestic season on October 7 and scored a ton. The last few years has been rough for the star batter, but he roared back with a scintillating knock vs his former team, Mumbai.
Prithvi Shaw is playing the game as the fixture is part of the preparation for both teams' upcoming Ranji Trophy campaign. Notably, fans were allowed to enter the ground and watch the game for free, as announced by the Mumbai Cricket Association.
Prithvi Shaw bounces back with a ton
As of Shaw's performance, the opener came to bat on Day 1 of the match between Mumbai and Maharashtra. Shaw reached his 100-run mark from just 140 balls, playing a patient knock alongside opener Arshin Kulkarni. The duo added 305 runs for the first wicket before Arshin was caught by Musheer Khan off a delivery from Shams Mulani.
Prithvi Shaw's last campaign with the bat was the Mumbai T20 League in June, where he had a decent outing, averaging 27.40 from five innings. His last domestic first-class outing was the Ranji Trophy in 2024, where he played for Mumbai.
That campaign was disappointing for Prithvi, as he averaged only 19.67 from four innings. Though he struggled with the bat in his last domestic outing, Shaw is expected to bounce back in form.
Mumbai miss Shreyas Iyer's expertise
Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer missed the match, as he is on an injury break. He will initially miss the start of the season, which is a setback for Mumbai, who aim for a strong domestic patch.
As for Prithvi Shaw, his first-class numbers stand at 4,556 runs from 102 innings, with an impressive average of 46.02. His expertise in red-ball cricket will definitely give an edge to his new side.
Maharashtra is placed in Elite Group B and will open their season against Kerala in Thiruvananthapuram from October 15 to 18.
