Legendary cricketer MS Dhoni, known for his calm demeanour, lost his temper after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a crucial group-stage encounter of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. This match held significant stakes as both teams were fighting for a spot in the playoffs.
MS Dhoni Had Lost Cool After RCB Defeated CSK In IPL 2024
Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh shared insights about the match during an interaction with Sports Yaari. He stated that MS Dhoni vented his anger on a screen outside the dressing room after the match.
“RCB deserved to celebrate the way they won. I witnessed everything from above. While RCB was celebrating, CSK lined up to shake hands. However, RCB took some time to join them. By the time they finished celebrating, Dhoni had already gone inside and punched a screen outside the dressing room. Every player experiences emotions, and it happens,” Harbhajan shared during an interaction with Sports Yaari.
Harbhajan further explained that MS Dhoni’s outburst could be attributed to the bitter disappointment of missing out on a playoff berth. He mentioned that MS Dhoni was visibly agitated that day after the defeat.
“He was not so calm that day. Maybe because his dream of retiring with the trophy was shattered in front of his eyes that day. Because after winning the trophy, Dhoni could have retired in 2023. But this is MS Dhoni’s decision. Maybe we will see him this year and next year as well. It depends on him. We are no one to tell him when he should retire, if he is fit, he can play for CSK for the next 10 years. Who are we to tell him when and for how long to play.” Harbhajan added.
Quick Recap To The Dramatic Final Over Of The RCB vs CSK Match
Tension was building throughout the match, particularly in the final over, when CSK needed 17 runs to win and Dhoni was at the crease. The stage was set for another classic MS Dhoni finish, especially after he smashed a six off the first ball of the last over bowled by Yash Dayal.
However, Yash Dayal kept his nerves and bowled a well-disguised, slower delivery. Dhoni attempted to clear the boundary again, but he mistimed the shot this time, sending the ball to a deep backward square leg, where Swapnil Singh took a pressure-filled catch.
The dismissal marked a turning point in the match as RCB regained control and sealed their victory. Dhoni’s dismissal was important for RCB, as CSK’s hopes of qualifying for the playoffs faded with it.
