In a historic move, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has awarded multi-year contracts to several top men’s and women’s players for the first time. This groundbreaking development follows the signing of a new four-year Memorandum of understanding (MOU) between CWI and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) in January 2024 to strengthen player contracts and professional commitments.

For the upcoming contract period, which runs from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025, CWI has announced that fifteen senior men’s players have been contracted, with six of those awarded multi-year contracts. Fifteen players have also been contracted on the women's side, with three players earning multi-year deals.

"CWI has committed to maintaining open and honest dialogue with players and being practical about the realities of the modern game. The players have responded in kind and the acceptance of multi-year contracts is an indication of clarity, confidence, and commitment on both sides. I’d like to congratulate the entire contracted cohort on their performances in the last assessment period and I look forward to them building on those in next one."Miles Bascombe-CWI Director of Cricket stated.

West Indies (WI) Men’s International Retainer Contracts

For the men’s team, first-time international contracts are awarded to two players, Kavem Hodge and Roston Chase.

Roston Chase has also secured a multi-year contract due to his consistent performances across formats. Hodge, who made his Test debut earlier this year against Australia, played a crucial role for West Indies in a Test victory in Brisbane. He continued to impress with a maiden Test century against England at Trent Bridge, finishing as the leading scorer in the series.

While the men’s pool of contracted players has remained relatively stable, there are two fundamental changes: Tagenerine Chanderpaul will take up a franchise retainer contract with the Guyana Harpy Eagles, while veteran pacer Kemar Roach is in discussions for a dual playing and mentorship/coaching role.

WI Women’s International Retainer Contracts

On the women’s side, the Senior Women’s pool has received multi-year contracts for the first time, which signifies CWI’s increased focus on developing women’s cricket as well. Ashmini Munisar has been awarded her first international contract after her string of impressive performances.

In addition to the senior contracts, emerging players like Glasgow, Mangru, and Gajnabi have been offered WI Women Academy contracts, which focus on nurturing upcoming talent. Meanwhile, Grimmond will take up a new franchise retainer for the forthcoming year.

To further bolster the development of women’s cricket in the region, CWI has introduced an updated performance assessment structure for the women’s team, which is now aligned with the systems used for both international and regional men’s cricket.
