Politician Shashi Tharoor Shows Anger After Sanju Samson, Yuzi Chahal's T20I Snubs

Political figure Shashi Tharoor voiced his dissatisfaction, suggesting that wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal should have been included in the Indian squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series starting on November 23.

Former Indian pacer and current BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar, finalised the side for the bilateral series. The team led by Suryakumar Yadav was unveiled by the BCCI on Monday night through a press release. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who led India to their first gold medal in the Asian Games earlier this year, will serve as the vice-captain for the first three matches.

Samson's exclusion, in particular, disappointed many fans, considering the 29-year-old was anticipated to be among the first names in the second-string squad. Several fans took to social media to express their discontent and question the selectors after BCCI announced India's squad on Monday.

Tharoor, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), voiced his opinion, stating,"This is truly inexplicable. Sanju Samson should not only have been selected, he should have led the side in the absence of all the seniors. His captaincy experience with Kerala and Rajasthan Royals is more current than SKY's. Our selectors need to explain themselves to the cricket-loving public. And why no Yuzvendra Chahal either?"

For the upcoming Australia series, only four players from India’s 2023 ODI World Cup squad have found a place in the T20 squad, with Shreyas Iyer set to miss the first three games and return as the vice-captain in the last two T20Is.

India aims to rejuvenate itself in the T20I series following the disappointment of the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia on Sunday. Despite coming agonisingly close to ending their decade-long trophy drought, India fell short in the end.

The young players selected for the Australia T20Is aspire to bring joy to Indian fans with their impressive performances against Australia as they begin preparations for the T20 World Cup next year.
