Virat Kohli flexed his muscles as the master unparalleled in One-Day Internationals during a remarkable campaign in the ICC World Cup 2023 and jumped to No.3 in the latest update to the ODI rankings for men.

The Indian legend's latest standing in the men's cricket rankings for ODIs was confirmed by the ICC on Wednesday (November 22) as he enjoyed an incredible run with the bat during the 50-over spectacle played at home and jumped to No.3 from No.9 since the start of the tournament.

Kohli dominated the runs chart for the marquee competition, emerging as the numero uno performer with 765 runs in his 11 innings, including three memorable hundreds versus Bangladesh, South Africa and New Zealand.

The latter of the three proved to be most memorable as it helped him surpass maestro Sachin Tendulkar to become the highest-ever men's One-Day centurion in the semifinal victory at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Kohli jumps to 3, other Indians too make moves

With his inspiration present in the stands, Kohli got Tendulkar standing up and saluting his greatness at the legend's own den in front of a packed Wankhede Stadium before raising his bat for the unmatched and most emotional 50th One-Day century.

Right throughout the campaign, the 35-year-old batted like a man on a mission to reclaim the World Cup glory for the nation for only the third time in cricket history after inspiring victories in the 1983 and 2011 editions of the World Cup.

Kohli scored a brilliant half-century in the final against Australia in Ahmedabad but even his freeflowing 54 off 63 wasn't good enough for India post a sizeable total and win the summit clash.

The modern-day giant was duly applauded for his jaw-dropping run by fans and prominent experts globally and even received the prestigious 'Player of the Trophy' on the podium after the final. No personal accolades and milestones, however, would prove a balm to the pain Kohli would be feeling for India's gut wrenching loss to the Australians.

Same would be the cases of talented opener Shubman Gill and Indian skipper Rohit Sharma as the former consolidated his No.1 ranking spot with 354 runs in his nine innings while the latter moved to No.4 after smashing 597 runs in 11 innings. Shreyas Iyer is positioned 12th in the ICC ODI rankings for batters with 530 runs during the campaign.

On the bowling front, seamer Mohammed Siraj slipped one spot below to No.3 after a rather unconvincing campaign and 14 wickets to his name. He is still one place above ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah, who took 20 wickets in the World Cup. Like Siraj, wristspinner Kuldeep Yadav also fell one spot lower to No.7 with 667 ratings and 15 wickets in the tournament.

Last but certainly not the least, experienced pacer Mohammad Shami is now the 10th best ODI ranked bowler in the world after a memorable World Cup that saw him bag an astonishing 24 scalps in just seven outings.
