Adelaide Strikers captain Matthew Short is confident of rekindling a legacy that has been running away from the Big Bash League franchise for the past six years. Adelaide Strikers were known to give their home crowd a ‘big bash’ on the eve of New Year, December 31, with flawless wins since BBL 03.
However, the team lost all the matches in the following seasons, with their streak ending in BBL 09. Now, with their game scheduled against the Brisbane Heat this year, Matthew Short is quite confident about giving something for the home crowd in Adelaide Oval to celebrate.
Matthew Short ready to revive Strikers legacy
Notably, Adelaide Strikers lost their first fixture against Brisbane Heat a few days ago, and in a re-match at home, Strikers skipper Matt Short promised to turn the tables.
“Perhaps we got carried away by the hype a little bit. We’ll make sure it doesn’t happen again and will be fully prepared next time,” Short told the media on Tuesday.
The Adelaide Oval is expecting over 40,000 local crowd on New Year’s eve and Short was positive on not disappointing the energy and excitement them this time around.
“I know the crowd turns up in huge numbers every game, and we’re very fortunate because of that. But there’s something special about the New Year’s Eve match that lifts the energy and excitement a bit more,” Short added.
The Brisbane Heat match on December 27 was a tight clash for the Strikers as the former won it by 7 runs at The Gabba, Brisbane. Nevertheless, Matthew Short elaborated that engaging the Heat at their home venue will be a plus for the side.
“We’re slightly disappointed with how the last game against the Heat turned out. We were in a strong position to win and were unlucky not to cross the line. But since we face them again in a couple of days, we know their strengths well and won’t need to spend too much time doing our homework,” Short added.
Matt Short in good touch in BBL 2025-26
Notably, the upcoming December 31 match will be Adelaide Strikers’ fourth game in the league after they lost the last two games and currently sit sixth at the points table under captain Matthew Short.
The skipper himself is in good touch in the league with two half-centuries to his name already. Though both the scores were in a losing cause, Matthew Short bagged 56 against the Melbourne Stars and 63 against the Brisbane Heat.
