In a recent interview, Smriti Mandhana, the Indian women's team's vice-captain asserted that her comparison with Virat Kohli is baseless and there shouldn't be such comparisons with a legend like him.

Eversince Mandhana made her international debut for India, fans have compared her game-style and attitude with that of the former India captain, Kohli. The two also wear the same jersey number - 18, and play for the same IPL franchise, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

As a result, Mandhana is constantly being touted as the Virat Kohli of the women's cricket. However, recently, the opening batter quashed all the comparisons, and stated that Kohli is a great player, and the two cannot be compared just because they both wear number 18 jersey.

"Virat Kohli is a great player. What he has achieved for Indian cricket is amazing. Don't compare me with him just because I'm wearing a No. 18 jersey, I don't like such comparisons"

Mandhana has had a similar growth at the international level as Kohli. The two are often stated to be the best batters of their side, and time and again they have proven it as well.

The 28-year-old has been in sensational form in 2024. She slammed back-to-back hundreds against South Africa in ODIs, followed by another century in the Test match against the same opposition. Mandhana, further further continued her form in the recently concluded Women's Asia Cup.
