Bangladesh faces a race against time to host the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup, as uncertainty looms large because of the political turmoil.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has approached the new interim government, seeking assurance for hosting the T20 World Cup in October. After a couple of days filled with violence and chaos, a new interim government was formed following the resignation of former Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, who fled the country.

The BCB face hurdles in securing the hosting rights as the situation in Bangladesh is tensed, and the country is functioning without a proper government. Moreover, the other countries are not feeling safe to travel to Bangladesh, as the board are assuring that all safety measures will be taken care of during the event, which starts from October 3.

“We had communicated with them [the Army] but by that time the [interim] government had already been formed. Since it has been formed, they will place priority on it as required,” BCB chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury told The Daily Star.

The governing body, ICC is also monitoring the situation in the nation. They have put India on the stand-by as the alternative hosts, if the situation doesn't get better in the coming days.

The BCB has also sent a letter to the head of the army in Bangladesh, seeking full security for the T20 WC.
