Following a disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup 2024, the Pakistan cricket team is undergoing significant changes.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is striving to rejuvenate the national team and bring fresh energy to its structure.

Recently, the PCB removed Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from the selection committee, marking the start of this overhaul.

Sarfaraz Advocates Rizwan for Captaincy

Sarfaraz Nawaz, Pakistan's legendary former seamer, emphasized the need for a comprehensive restructuring rather than making selective changes.

He suggested reducing the selection committee to three members and stressed that merely removing individuals like Wahab and Abdul Razzaq would not suffice.

"Major surgery is required if at all we want to put the system on the right track. There should be a three-member selection committee, and mere sacking Wahab and Abdul Razzak would not be enough. Not even Asad Shafiq (a silent spectator) and Mohammad Yousaf are capable of delivering.”

His comments highlight the necessity for a thorough overhaul to ensure the team's success.

Skipper Babar Azam has faced significant criticism, with debates surrounding his performance and leadership skills.

Reports indicate that Babar has struggled with proper communication and bonding with the current players.

Sarfaraz did not hold back in his remarks about Babar, advocating for Mohammad Rizwan as the captain for white-ball formats due to Rizwan's successful track record in domestic and franchise cricket.

"Rizwan has proved his captaincy credentials by helping KPK win all domestic events in the past while his performance as Multan Sultans’ captain has been consistent over the years. He is the best choice for the job. Babar Azam is low in confidence and should not be considered for the job.”

Looking ahead, the PCB faces the challenging task of selecting the squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, set to take place in Pakistan next month.
