Rohit Sharma, India’s T20 World Cup-winning captain, recently shared an emotional story about his long journey in international cricket. In a special episode called Champions Waali Feeling Phir Se on JioCinema and Star Sports, Rohit spoke from the heart – about his first T20 World Cup in 2007 and the big win in 2024.

Rohit Sharma was just 20 years old when he won his first World Cup in 2007. After that, India didn’t win any major ICC title for years. Under Rohit’s captaincy, India faced painful losses – like the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final against England and the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia.

But finally, in 2024, Rohit led Team India to victory in the T20 World Cup, defeating South Africa in the final and ending India’s 11-year ICC trophy drought.

“2007 mein Jab Hum Jeete The Mera pehla Saal Tha Aur rab 20 saal ka tha. Jab jeetne k baad aisa laga world cup jeet gye shayad iske baad bhi jeet te rhenge. Only after going through each World Cup after that and not winning any one of them made me feel like how important it is, Rohit said in the video.

He also added,  "Luckily, when we went to the World Cup in 2024, the team that we wanted guys are in good form. When all the things got combined, then hume ye mauka milaki hum jaakar world cup jeete. Kabhi socha nahi tha itna saal wait karna padega world cuo jeetne k liye. Par der aaye durust aaye."

Right after the T20 World Cup win, Rohit Sharma retired from T20Is. He finished as India’s highest run-scorer in T20 internationals with 4,231 runs in 159 matches, including five centuries. His partner-in-crime, Virat Kohli, also retired soon after, with 4,188 runs.

Both legends also stepped away from Test cricket in May 2025, just a few days apart. Now, they will only focus on ODIs. Even though he has retired from Tests and T20s, fans will still see Rohit Sharma in action in the upcoming ODI series against Bangladesh.
