India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph in Barbados may have been packed with high-octane  moments, but one of the most emotional scenes came after the final ball was bowled when Indian skipper Rohit Sharma kissed Hardik Pandya in a gesture of pure gratitude and affection.

Speaking on Star Sports/JioCinema’s special program “Champions Wali Feeling Phir Se”, Rohit revisited the defining moments of the dramatic final against South Africa, highlighting Pandya’s heroics in the final over as the turning point.

“This was an emotional moment,” Rohit shared. “Hardik is my man, he did the job for me and for the team, otherwise we would’ve been sitting without anything in our hands.”

Pandya’s Game-Changing Spell

Hardik Pandya delivered a clutch final over in the summit clash, defending 16 runs off the last six balls. The all-rounder dismissed the dangerous David Miller on the very first delivery, thanks to a jaw-dropping boundary catch by Suryakumar Yadav. From there, Pandya held his nerve, guiding India to a narrow but monumental 7-run victory and ending the nation’s 17-year wait for a T20 World Cup title.

Earlier in the match, Pandya had already tilted the momentum by removing in-form Heinrich Klaasen, who was threatening to take the game away from India. Klaasen’s dismissal at an important juncture halted SA’s surge and brought India back into the contest.

The final over, however, is what will define Pandya’s legacy in this tournament. With the weight of a billion hopes on his shoulders, the ace all-rounder executed his plans with clinical precision.

The win marked a fairytale ending to the T20I careers of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. It is important to note that Kohli was given the Player of the Match for his composed knock in the final.
