Najmul Hossain Shanto smashed centuries in both innings of the opening Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle. He could not replicate that form in the Colombo Test and scored 8 and 19 in the first and second innings, respectively.

Najmul Hossain Shanto Reaches New Heights Against Bangladesh

However, in a brief knock of just 19 runs in the second innings, Najmul Hossain Shanto smashed one four and a six. The maximum he hit was his 29th in Test cricket, and he has now gone past Shakib Al Hasan, who hit 28 sixes in the format. The current Bangladesh Test captain has crossed Shakib in just 37 Tests, while the all-rounder played 71 games.

Najmul Hossain Shanto is now fourth on the list of the most sixes hit by a Bangladesh batter in Test cricket. Tamim Iqbal is at the top of the list with 41 sixes in the format, while Mushfiqur Rahim is in the second position with 37 maximums.

Interestingly, Mohammad Rafique, who was known more for his bowling, is third in the list. He has 34 sixes to his name, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mominul Haque are the other two players in the current squad who are in the top 10. 

Thus, Najmul Hossain Shanto, who is just 26 years old, is already ahead of many Bangladesh superstars and is likely to climb up the ladder even further in future. The batter has seven centuries and five fifties in the format and has been leading his country in Test cricket since 2023.

Overall, Shanto has 64 sixes at the international level and is one of the players who is likely to serve Bangladesh cricket for a long time.
