Pakistan batting veteran Babar Azam has congratulated the Australian team for winning the 2023 World Cup at a jam-packed Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The cricketer, who was spotted playing golf on the day of the final, took to his Instagram account and tagged Cricket Australia in his story.

Babar hailed Australia's commanding all-round performance on the big day, which saw them ravaging an unbeaten Indian team by six wickets.

Babar Azam congratulates Australia for World Cup 2023

Babar Azam, who recently resigned from Pakistan captaincy across all formats, has congratulated Pat Cummins and his Australian troops after they defeated World Cup 2023 hosts India in the final. Taking to Instagram, the batting maverick wrote:

“Congratulations Cricket Australia. What a commanding performance in the final.”

Babar Azam recently led Pakistan at the 2023 World Cup, where his side crashed out of the semifinal race after slumping to four successive defeats in the league stage.

Pakistan's early tournament exit, coupled with the preceding Asia Cup 2023 humiliation in Sri Lanka, factored in Babar's resignation from the captaincy role across all formats.

The cricketer also had a World Cup to forget with the bat as he managed to score just 320 runs across ten innings for Pakistan at an average of 40.

Babar Azam will next be seen in action for his country in their forthcoming Test tour of Australia. Slated to play a three-match Test series, the 'Men in Green' will first turn up at the Perth Stadium on December 14 for the opening match. The series will form a part of the ongoing 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
