Former Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper and present captain of Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Aiden Markram said that pressure with leadership creates a lot of mental stress. However, to manage that, enjoying the game is crucial.

Aiden Markram is a seasoned South African middle-order batsman who has been playing for many seasons in the Indian Premier League. In IPL 2023, he was appointed as the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). However, that season, the team finished at the bottom, with four wins in 14 games.

As a result, he was replaced by Pat Cummins who led SRH in IPL 2024 and the franchise finished as runners-up.

Aiden Markram feeling the pressure of captaincy?

Sunrisers Eastern Cape named Aiden Markram as their captain for the SA20 league. Though the skipper had led his team to two consecutive titles in the first two seasons, the Eastern Cape went through a terrible start to the SA20 2025 season, losing the first 3 games on the trot.

Amid this, Markram opened up on the pressure of captaincy. While speaking at a virtual meet and greet organised by Pari Match, he said:

"It’s probably the man management that gives more mental stress. There are a lot of things at stake, enjoying is the biggest thing, make sure the guys have a good time, at the same time it’s essential to be competitive."

For the IPL 2025 season, SRH parted ways with Markram. He entered the mega auction pool and was signed by Lucknow Super Giants for a nominal price of INR 2 crore.

SRH faces the threat of missing Nitish Reddy for IPL 2025

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) retained six players for the upcoming IPL 2025 season with promising all-rounder Nitish Reddy being one of them. Just before the second T20I between India and England, BCCI released a medical report stating that Reddy has been diagnosed with a side strain.

He has been ruled out of the T20I series, and though his participation in IPL 2025 season is uncertain, there's no statement given on the matter.
