Ab de Villiers, former South Africa batter, is trending on social media after his return to the cricket field was confirmed. De Villiers will be captaining the South Africa Champions team in the highly anticipated second edition of the World Championship of Legends (WCL).

Legendary South Africa cricketer AB de Villiers is a fan-favourite batter who gained prominence for his unorthodox power hitting. His stint with Royals Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) earned him a separate fan base in India.

However, in 2018, ABD announced retirement from international cricket and completely sidelined himself from competitive cricket.

AB de Villiers returns to action after 4 years

South African cricket legend AB de Villiers has announced his return to the sport after nearly four years of retirement. The former RCB icon, who retired from all forms of international cricket in 2018, will captain the South Africa Champions team in the second edition of the World Championship of Legends (WCL).

As soon as the news of his return came out, the internet went into a frenzy. Fans used the phrase ‘AB de Villiers is back’ to post hundreds of tweets sharing their excitement.

That being said, the South Africa Champions’ squad already boasts cricketing icons such as Jacques Kallis, Herschelle Gibbs, and Dale Steyn. With de Villiers’ leadership, the team is set for an exciting journey in the WCL.

India Champions will be defending the title in the second edition after they won the inaugural season in an epic final against arch-rivals Pakistan Champions.

De Villiers inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame

The ICC has announced the induction of three cricketing legends, South Africa's AB de Villiers, England's Alastair Cook, and India's Neetu David, into its prestigious Hall of Fame. ABD is regarded as one of the greatest modern-day batters.

He broke the record of the fastest century in ODIs and is an absolute game-changer across all formats for South Africa. He scored 8,765 runs from 114 Tests with a remarkable average of 50.66 and more than 9,500 runs in ODIs. T20Is and IPL were full of dynamic performances that made him the iconic figure in international cricketing.
