Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli, known for his explosive batting in the 90s, received an emotional message from Kapil Dev, the iconic captain of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning team, during a challenging time. Kambli had been hospitalized for nearly two weeks after falling unconscious at his Mumbai home.
His condition, which included urinary infection, cramps, and later a diagnosis of brain clots, required intensive care.
Kapil Dev’s Emotional Video Call
During his stay at Akruti Hospital, Kapil Dev reached out to Kambli through a video call, offering words of encouragement and support.
“Hi Kapil paaji, how are you?” Kambli responded emotionally. Kapil advised him to prioritize his recovery and assured him of a visit once Kambli was discharged.
“I will come and see you. You are looking good, you have coloured your beard. Don’t rush. If you need to stay (in the hospital) for a few more days, please don’t rush. Tell the doctors it is fine if there is a need to stay on for two more days," Kapil Dev said.
“Take care. When you will better and come out, I will come to meet you. Look after yourself, love you," Kapil added.
Kapil also expressed gratitude to the hospital staff for their care, saying, "Thank you Shailesh, (for) you are looking after him. He is looking good, look after him."
Vinod Kambli’s New Year Message
Kambli was discharged on January 1, 2025. Despite appearing physically weak, his spirits were high. Before leaving, he even played a short game of cricket with the hospital staff and posed for photos, showcasing his resilience.
Speaking to the media after his discharge, Kambli shared a heartfelt New Year message, urging people to avoid alcohol and drugs.
