After a disappointing World Cup campaign, former Pakistani speedster Wasim Akram voiced his frustration on how the national side crumbled under the supervision of foreign coaches. The 57-year-old claimed that the coaches have made very little effort to uplift the national side.

They barely spend less than 12 months with the team and do not make frequent visits to the academy (NCA) to monitor the preparations of the individual players. Furthermore, he also complained that the foreign coaches often accompany the team during a tour, and once the tour is complete, they head back home which certainly does not benefit the team.

Akram believes that the coaches had very limited involvement with the players and further lacked long-term planning. Hence he has been more in favour of onboarding home-grown Pakistani coaches that can in turn facilitate improved bonding with these players on a personal level.

While interacting with DNA, Wasim Akram took a hilarious dig at the foreign coaches by saying that they have fed them laddus (Subcontinent desert) all the time and have done no real good to bolster their national side during crunch clashes.

"Our foreign coaches aren't here (in Pakistan) all the time. They only come for tours. They don't make efforts to visit the NCA and coach youngsters or other coaches. They don't focus on man-management and the psychological aspect. Unhone to laddu khilaya hua hai hum sab ko (we are just being fooled)."

Ahead of their crucial Test series against Australia later this month, the PCB have done away with their old coaching administration consisting of the likes of Morne Morkel and Grant Bradburn.

Pakistan have recently hired Mohammad Hafeez as the new head coach while Wahab Riaz has been appointed the new chief selector of Pakistan’s men's team. On the other hand, Shan Masood has been handed the captaincy baton in the red-ball format.
