Former Pakistan pacer and legend Wasim Akram recently entertained fans with a witty story involving the iconic Sir Viv Richards.

Taking a trip down memory lane to the early years of his career, Akram shared an amusing incident that happened during the 1988 Pakistan-West Indies match in Barbados.

In 1988, Viv Richards, the ‘big man’ of the sport at those days warned Wasim Akram to refrain from sledging him and threatened him to face the consequences after the match.

However, undeterred, a carefree and ‘young’ pacer, Akram sledged him again on the next ball. True to his word, Richards stood in front of the Pakistan dressing room after the day's play.

How It All Started?

Wasim Akram bowled a fierce bouncer at Vivian Richards, who dodged it, but his cap fell to the ground. Akram seized the opportunity to sledge, but with his broken English, he managed only two words. Richards then warned him not to sledge or ‘he will kill him’.

In a tense moment, young Wasim Akram reported Vivian Richards' threats to Captain Imran Khan. Khan's response was clear – bowl another bouncer. Akram did just that, dismissing Richards on the last ball and celebrating with a dance, much to Richards' fury.

True to his on-field threat, Vivian Richards came to meet Wasim Akram outside the dressing room. Meanwhile, the left-arm pacer, feeling overwhelmed, rushed back to the dressing room and asked for help from Imran Khan. The Pakistan captain, however, backed off and insisted that Akram, having started the altercation, must face it alone.

Later on, Wasim Akram, just a kid in his early 20s, had to bite the bullet and say sorry to the beastly Vivian Richards for his mischief and sledging. Yet, that episode is still one of the cricket world's most hilarious tales.
