BCB Begins Dissecting Bangladesh's Failed World Cup Campaign Under Shakib Al Hasan

Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) three-member committee featuring board directors Enayet Hossain Siraj (convenor), Mahbubul Anam (member) and Akram Khan (member) have opened up their assessment of Bangladesh's horrific ICC World Cup 2023 campaign in India.

The committee formed on November 29 by the board will be seeking reasons and try to examine them in the coming days as to why the Bangla Tigers, who were one of the successful One-Day outfits at the height of the Super League days, crashed woefully down to earth in October-November.

It was Bangladesh's worst World Cup campaign since the 2003 edition when they were still at an infant stage as a Test-playing nation. Shakib Al Hasan's men suffered seven spirit-breaking losses at the hands of the world's finest oppositions during the nine-match league stage, including an embarrassing loss to the eventual wooden-spooners Netherlands.

Wins over Afghanistan and Sri Lanka just about saved the face for Bangladesh and helped them pip the Lankan Lions and the Dutchmen on NRR to bag the eighth and the final 2025 Champions Trophy qualification spot.

BCB Panels Assesses World Cup Disaster

The BCB panel wants to get to the root causes of Bangladesh's pedestrian showings and had called upon BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin and his selection committee member Habibul Bashar on Sunday (December 3) to seek their views before players Mustafizur Rahman and Litton Das were also called up.

"The thing is that we are discussing with everybody. It's not an inquiry. The failings we had in the World Cup where our results did not go according to expectations, meant that we had to talk to everyone so that in the future we can take the team to higher levels," committee's convenor Enayet told the reporters.

Bangladesh, under Najmal Hasan Shanto's leadership, are currently playing a home Test series against New Zealand, where they are leading the series by 1-0 in a two-match series.
