The chief selector of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Wahab Riaz, now has three new consultants: Kamran Akmal, Salman Butt, and Rao Iftikhar Anjum. In the immediate aftermath of Australia's tour, their first assignment to assist Wahab will be a five-match T20I series against New Zealand, beginning on January 12.

All three -- Akmal, Butt, and Iftikhar -- were a part of Pakistan's 2009 ICC Men's T20 World Cup campaign, in which they enjoyed elusive title win under the leadership of Younis Khan.

It will be Butt's first official and major position with the PCB who handed a ban in 2010 for spot-fixing scandal, while Akmal and Anjum have previously handled selection duties. The PCB Junior Selection Committee appointed Akmal as its chair earlier this year. Additionally, he was appointed chair of an eight-person selection committee, which will select regional and district teams by holding trials for the Under-13, Under-16, and Under-19 teams.

On the other hand, Anjum was one of the three members of the committee that was formed when Abdul Razzaq and Shahid Afridi were appointed as the team's temporary chief selectors later in the previous year.

Recently, Wahab Riaz has been named as the PCB’s Chief Selector, and Mohammad Hafeez has been appointed as Team Director. Along with Babar Azam's resignation as Pakistan’s captain across formats, Shaheen Afridi was named as their T20I skipper whereas Shan Masood was confirmed as the new Test leader.
