Indian cricket’s rising sensation, Yashasvi Jaiswal, recently confessed that head coach Rahul Dravid’s constant backing and impeccable communication during stressful situations stood out for him during his recent successful series against England.
22-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal outclassed a full-strength England squad during the recently concluded five-game Test series. Owing to his 712 runs in nine innings, Jaiswal walked out with the Player of the Series award.
That being said, Jaiswal’s meteoric rise in Test cricket was motivated by a lot of factors. The team management’s backing and faith in him as an opener was one of them. Notably, to accommodate Jaiswal at the top, the team dropped regular opener Shubman Gill at no.3.
Meanwhile, in a recent interview, Yashasvi Jaiswal opened up about head coach Rahul Dravid’s useful tips and advice, which stood out for him and helped him achieve success in the recent series.
Jaiswal said that Dravid has always been a constant support not only for him but also for the entire team. Every time he walks into the dressing room, Dravid makes sure to talk to the players and enquire about their state of mind.
Moreover, Jaiswal added that Dravid ensures that players feel safe around him to talk freely and seek any information whatsoever. The spirit, confidence provided by him has helped all the youngsters thrive equally in this series.
"Dravid sir keeps supporting us. He will walk in and keep talking to us. He will be asking ‘kya chal raha hai dimag mein (what is going in your mind)?’ He makes sure I can speak to him and get the right information for the game. He gives that spirit, he gives us that confidence that we will do it. He will tell us to enjoy the game, and be aware of the situation. I keep all these messages in my mind when batting," said Jaiswal.
Yashasvi Jaiswal further added that he always listens to Rahul Dravid keenly and ensures to use his valuable tips while batting.
That being said, Yashasvi Jaiswal has exceeded all expectations with his recent outings in Test cricket. The batter not only dominated at home but also showed class in daunting South African conditions.
Undoubtedly, as India embarks on a transition with the senior team, Jaiswal will be viewed as a key figure in red-ball cricket.
