In a light-hearted moment, Indian head coach Rahul Dravid coined Indian captain Rohit Sharma as India’s greatest six-hitter to ever live while acknowledging the latter’s hitting ability and power.

India concluded a successful five-game Test series against England with a record 4-1 win. While the hosts’ domination grabbed highlights, a unique record went unnoticed amid the buzz. Both teams combined hit a total of 102 sixes across the series, which is the most ever hit in a Test series. While India accounted for 72 maximums, England could only add 30 long hits to their tally.

India’s player of the series, Yashasvi Jaiswal, led the carnage with 29 sixes, thus surpassing Rohit Sharma's previous record of most sixes hit in a Test series.

However, when asked about the inspiration behind the men in blue’s shift in approach, head coach Rahul Dravid wasted no time in giving credit to captain Rohit Sharma.

While speaking to JioCinema, Dravid said that watching young guys hit fearless sixes is heartening to witness as a coach. The coach turned to Rohit Sharma to acknowledge him as an inspiration. He added that Rohit had been India’s greatest six-hitter and an inspiration for youngsters to play fearless cricket.

"But it is incredible to watch, and that is one facet of the game that is at a different level. We have got someone (Rohit Sharma) who is the greatest six-hitter India has ever produced. It is phenomenal – the (six) hitting power, the skill, the ability. Every time they hit the ball, it seems to go out. It’s amazing,” Dravid said.

Notably, Rohit Sharma is currently leading the world record for most international sixes with 597 to his tally. He surpassed the 553 sixes record previously held by universe boss Chris Gayle.

That being said, Rohit Sharma is a seasoned campaigner and one of the modern greats of Indian cricket. With his elegant stroke play, Sharma has amassed numerous sixes throughout his illustrious career across all formats of the game.

His towering for big hits, particularly in limited-overs cricket, has made him a fan favorite and a nightmare for opposition bowlers.Overall, Rohit retaining his prime at the age of 36 is a massive encouraging sign for Indian cricket and its immediate future.
