West Indies cricket legend and Quetta Gladiators mentor, Sir Vivian Richards, has shown his full support for Pakistan's cricket team, saying he believes they will bounce back stronger despite recent poor performances. He also gave words of encouragement to struggling star Babar Azam.
Pakistan cricket is undergoing a tough phase for lacking competitiveness at big stages. From ICC tournaments to Test series, the men in green haven’t had much success at the international level in recent times.
At a time when Pakistan and its star cricketer Babar Azam’s relevance is in question, Sir Viv Richards has come forward to offer them a ray of hope.
Sir Viv Richards Backs Babar Azam
In a recent interview with Cricket Pakistan, Sir Viv Richards strongly backed Babar Azam, who has been facing criticism for his recent form. He added that even the best players go through rough patches, and this is just a phase for Babar.
"Babar Azam will soon regain his form. A king is one who rules over all. No matter how good a batter you are, everyone goes through a rough patch. This is not the first time he’s facing such a phase. Babar is a very good player. I am sure he will get back to form very soon. A king is one who rules over all. I believe when you watch players like Kohli and Babar, they appear to do justice to the game of cricket," he said.
Not only that, the former legend said that every team goes through tough times and that it’s normal in cricket, reflecting Pakistan’s recent downfall. He hopes that with the right support and management, Pakistan will rise again in world cricket.
"Bad times come to everyone. I am confident that Pakistan will once again become a good team. I have always felt that Pakistan has been gifted with great cricketers and immense talent. All we can hope is that with time, this talent continues to shine," he added.
PCB To Hire New Head Coach For Pakistan
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly in talks with Mike Hesson, former Director of Cricket for IPL team Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), to become the new head coach of the Pakistan national team.
The position has been vacant since interim coach Aaqib Javed decided not to continue after Pakistan's disappointing performance in the 2025 Champions Trophy. According to reports, PCB has reached out to Hesson along with other foreign coaches such as Simon Katich from Australia and Luke Ronchi, New Zealand’s current batting coach.
