Jemimah Rodrigues recently appeared on Gaurav Kapoor’s YouTube show, Breakfast with Champions. Following India’s historic win in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, the show has featured women’s cricketers in recent episodes. In the latest episode, Jemimah recalled an incident from her childhood when all her cousins thought she was dead.
Jemimah shared how she and her cousins were playing in an auditorium during a church programme when she fell from the first floor while trying to retrieve one of her cousins’ shoes in an attempt to be the hero. Fortunately, she was unharmed during the incident.
Jemimah reveals her horror story
“We were in an auditorium where we had a church programme. All the kids were outside. We were playing chappal fight over there. (I was like eight) My cousin threw her Crocs, and it was like you had to jump to the other side to get it," Jemimah said.
“I, like a full hero, said that I would get it. I fell from the first floor. Luckily, someone was sitting down, and I fell on her head. My cousins thought I died," she added.
Jemimah Rodrigues shares insights on the Indian team’s atmosphere
The 25-year-old was one of the key members of the Indian team that beat South Africa to lift the World Cup. Her masterful knock against Australia in the semi-finals was one of the most iconic innings in the history of Indian cricket.
Giving more insights into her team, Jemimah revealed the nicknames of some of the Indian players. She also revealed team captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s nickname. She said that people fondly call her “Thor Didi”.
“Our nicknames are pretty simple. Richu [Richa Ghosh], Deepu [Deepti Sharma], and Jemu [herself]. Harman is Thor didi, Harmanpreet Thor. On the field, you see her aggressive, but off the field, she is very emotional. She will give everything for you," she stated.
Further speaking about her team, she revealed that they often have team bonding sessions, where she plays a key role, calling herself the “Chief Fun Officer”. She also revealed that the team’s head coach, Amol Majumdar, is the most enthusiastic about these sessions.
"We have team bonding dinners. In that I play a key role. Along with Harleen [Deol], I am the Chief Fun Officer. Once during the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, we did a treasure hunt in the hotel. The most enthu about this was Amol Sir. He will call me ten days before. Then the next day at breakfast, he will ask me if I have planned anything," she added.

Meanwhile, Jemimah Rodrigues is gearing up to lead the Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League 2026. DC will begin their campaign against the Mumbai Indians on January 10 at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
The Mumbai-born cricketer has tremendous experience leading her domestic side, but this is a much higher stage, and the stakes are really high. It will be interesting to see how Delhi fares under the new leadership.
