Indian women’s cricket star Jemimah Rodrigues has shared a comical yet entertaining experience that took place during the only Test match between India vs Australia Women at the Wankhede Stadium in the year 2023.
The match, which India won by eight wickets, is already remembered for the team’s strong performance. But for Jemimah, one funny exchange on the field has stayed fresh in her mind.
The ‘Mummy’ sledge that sparked laughter
Speaking on the show ‘Breakfast with Champions', Jemimah Rodrigues opened up about a moment involving Richa Ghosh and Australian captain Alyssa Healy.
Jemimah revealed that while batting alongside Richa Ghosh, she was constantly chatting with her between overs, offering advice and encouragement.
That’s when Alyssa Healy, standing behind the stumps, decided to step in with a cheeky sledge.
“Hey, your mummy is talking, go listen to her,” Healy told Ghosh.
What happened next made the moment unforgettable. On the very first ball of the next over, Richa played a beautiful square cut for four. Instead of staying quiet, she turned around and replied to Healy with perfect timing.
“She said, ‘Mummy told me to hit a four,’” Jemimah said, laughing as she shared the story.
The witty response left everyone amused and showed the strong bond between the two Indian batters.

Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa’s special partnership
The banter was backed by solid performances with the bat. In that innings, both Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh scored half-centuries and stitched together a crucial partnership for India.
Jemimah made 73 runs, while Richa contributed 52, helping the team build a strong total of 406 runs
Their partnership not only frustrated the Australian bowlers. India then bowled out Australia for 261 in the third inning and got a modest target of 75 to chase. In 18.4 overs, India accomplished the total and registered an 8-wicket win.
Nicknames, Thor didi and team bonding
On the same podcast, Jemimah Rodrigues also shared some fun details about the team’s dressing-room culture.
She revealed that most players have simple nicknames like Richu, Deepu and Jemu. But one name that stood out was Harmanpreet Kaur’s.
“We call her Thor didi – Harmanpreet Thor,” Jemimah said.
She explained that while Harmanpreet looks aggressive and fierce on the field, she is extremely emotional and caring off it.
Harmenpreet Kaur has etched her name among the greatest captains of Indian cricket history by leading the team to their first-ever Women’s World Cup title.
