Legendary Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath has advised Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah to take a cautionary break from the game. As per the former cricketer, Bumrah’s bowling action demands extensive effort, which subsequently puts him at risk of succumbing to unwanted injuries.

As of now, the Indian paceman is on course to represent the Mumbai Indians franchise in the upcoming IPL 2024 season.

The speedster recently starred in India’s emphatic 4-1 Test series win against the visiting Englishmen, where his performance even helped him scale the number one bowling rankings at one stage.

While speaking with the reporters at the MRF Pace Foundation in Chennai, Glenn McGrath stressed the importance of an ‘off-season’ for Jasprit Bumrah, citing the extensive effort required for the latter’s bowling action. McGrath said:

“Someone like Jasprit Bumrah needs an off-season because he puts so much into every ball. With so much extensive effort, he needs a break. If he keeps playing, the amount of pressure created given the bowling action he has, he is bound to get injured, which he has in the past.”

Jasprit Bumrah did sustain a back injury in late 2022, one which prompted him to miss the entirety of 2022 T20 World Cup and the 2023 IPL season for Mumbai Indians. However, the Indian speed merchant made rapid progress to recover in time for team’s short trip to Ireland, thus rehearsing himself for the 2023 ODI World Cup at home.

Jasprit Bumrah is slated to reprise his role for the Mumbai Indians franchise in the upcoming IPL 2024 season. The speedster was retained by the MI management back in November 2023 during the IPL 2024 retention phase.

The Mumbai Indians franchise will commence their IPL 2024 campaign with a match against Gujarat Titans on March 24, and the tournament itself serves as a testing ground for Bumrah for this year’s T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies.
