Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has put forth his recommendation for the ideal opening pair in the upcoming India vs South Africa T20I series. Given the surplus of talented openers in the squad, Manjrekar suggests that the team should persist with the successful opening combination of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad, with Shubman Gill taking on the crucial No. 3 position.

During the recent series against Australia, following the conclusion of the 2023 ICC Men's World Cup, Jaiswal and Gaikwad assumed the opening roles in the absence of Gill, who was rested after the demanding ICC campaign.

However, Gill's return to the team has created a selection dilemma for the management, considering his established role as an opener in the T20 format.

Here's what Manjrekar said:

"Will India think of disturbing this opening combination of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal? However, Shubman Gill has that track record. My compromise would be Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad to continue and Shubman Gill at No. 3."

The 58-year-old further highlighted the exceptional depth in the current Indian batting order, acknowledging the challenge of accommodating the in-form Ishan Kishan in the lineup.

"If Suryakumar Yadav bat at No. 4. Then you have got Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, and Shreyas Iyer - that's your batting order. There is tremendous depth. How do I fit in Ishan Kishan? I am struggling."

The duo of Jaiswal and Gaikwad displayed their batting prowess, particularly Gaikwad, who emerged as the leading run-scorer in the series with an impressive total of 223 runs, contributing significantly to India's 4-1 series victory.
