'It Has Always Been..', Ex-CSK Star Points Out 'Biggest Challenge' For IND Before T20 World Cup

After incurring a heart-breaking defeat in the 2023 World Cup final, India will be looking to break their knockout jinx and end their ICC trophy drought in the T20 World Cup next year. However, with several senior players, including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, being doubtful to feature in the event, it won't be a cakewalk for the Men in Blue to succeed in their mission.

As Kohli and Rohit's chances of playing in the 2024 World Cup remain uncertain, former Indian keeper-batter Parthiv Patel has figured out the perennial nemesis for team India in ICC events.

As quoted by NDTV Sports, Patel stated that India have found it tough to form the ideal combination, leading to their debacle in the ICC events. Speaking to Cricbuzz, Patel highlighted that India have very few games left to finalise their core group for the T20 World Cup.

"India's biggest challenge to me has always been finding that right combination, especially in the T20 format. And we don't have games. Now we are talking about just three Afghanistan games if at all Virat or Rohit or Bumrah play in that. So I think it is something which India will have to take into account," Patel stated.

"Or else, they will have to go with whoever does well in the IPL. But then you will have to announce the team about halfway through the IPL as well. So it is a challenge. I am sure that before announcing the team they must have thought of who is in line for the World Cup and whether we want to get them for the Afghanistan series. It is a tricky situation," he added.

Led by Suryakumar Yadav, India recently recorded a comprehensive 4-1 series win over Australia. Up next, they will lock horns with a rampant South African outfit in a three-match T20I series starting the day after tomorrow.
